This is hop-heavy classic english pale ale brewed in september (right during harvest season) with hops I grew in the eagle heights garden. Because of the many different kinds of hops it tastes a bit bitter and muddy, but is quite quaffable nonetheless. Brewing is relatively easy, just throw in malt extract and hops around the right time like you would for other ales. | |

If I were redoing the brew I would use a greater quantity but fewer different kinds of hops than I ended up with. |
Mash Style: Extract
Brew Style: IPA
Ingredients for 5 gallons (19 L):
- 1 lb Crystal (10 L) Malt, This was probably too much, papazian recommended 1/2 lb and the color looks too drak
- 6.4 lbs Pale Malt
- 3.5 gal Water, From the Ranger Station @ S. Kettle Morraine St. Park,
- 3/4 oz. Northern Brewer Hops, From Eagle Heights
- 3/4 oz. Zeus Hops, From Eagle Heights
- English Ale Yeast
- 1 oz. Target Hops, Bittering
- 1 oz. Willamette Hops, Flavoring
Instructions:
Steep Crystal malt in a grain bag while bring 2 Gal.of water to a boil, removing the malt when the water reaches about 165 degrees. Add the Pale malt, boil for 10 minutes, then add the bittering (Target) hops. Boil for another 30 minutes, then add flavoring (Willamette) hops. Boil for 5 minutes, then add aroma (Zeus & Northern Brewer) hops from the Eagle Heights garden. Cool, adding 1098 Wyeast English Ale Yeast when below 80 degrees.
